The 2005 survey is the 41st survey.University students are experiencing extremely difficult living conditions, reflecting the financial status of their parents, on whom they often depend. The shifting economic climate is also causing changes in the structure of students’ revenue and expenditure, including income from part-time (arubaito) jobs, scholarships and the like, as well as their consumer behavior and their perception of interpersonal relations.Moreover, the incorporation of national universities in 2004 and various other recent changes in universities are also manifesting in the changing perceptions and behaviors of university students.The basic survey items are used on an ongoing basis, with special survey items included each year. Carrying on from last year’s survey, the survey this time includes items on topics such as reasons for entering university, university classes, facilities, equipment and environment at current university, overall satisfaction with university, and activities on ordinary weekdays, and activities and feelings in the course of everyday life. New items have also been added on topics such as credit cards, e-money, convenience store ATMs, earning qualifications, and internships. The data also include responses to additional questions posed by some co-operative associations on the “meal card” initiatives being conducted in these associations’ dining
