However, what is necessary in the first place is to capture the actual situation, and if there is a problem, to start from there and think about a solution together. Hence, this survey was conducted to capture the actual state of childrearing in homes with children from third grade in elementary school to third year in junior high school and mothers’ attitudes toward discipline and education.\n\nA survey with almost the exact same content as this survey was conducted in 1997 on the guardians of children from the first year of kindergarten to second grade of elementary school, and when combined with the subjects of this survey, all years from kindergarten through elementary school to junior high school are covered. The data are valuable in allowing an understanding of trends in how mothers’ attitudes to child-rearing change with their children’s growth over 12 school
