Unexplained absences are common among them and then they nonchalantly show up in school a couple of days later, after 10:00 a.m. Another common scenario is that they have an upcoming test, but they do not show any signs of studying. They also tend to get excited in the company of their friends and fail to quiet down when class starts. Moreover, they often borrow their friends’  belongings without permission and use them as if they were their own. These may seem like small things, but the prevalence of such behavior can give the impression that students’ conduct is deteriorating. Seemingly normal students sometimes commit outrageous acts.\n\n　In such cases, comparing Japanese junior high school students with their counterparts in other societies may reveal the reality.
