JGSS-2013LCSは、2009年に実施した JGSS-2009LCSの調査完了者を対象に、2013年に行った追跡調査であり、４年間における職業経歴や家族歴、社会意識の持続と変化を詳細に調べることによって、近年の日本社会における男女の人生パターンの実像を解明することを目的としている。

JGSS-2013LCSは面接調査と留置調査を併用し、現在の意識と行動に加えて、前回調査から現在にいたる学校歴、職業経歴、ならびに家族形成について詳細に尋ねている。JGSS-2013LCSには、対象者の属性に関する設問（対象者の学歴、収入、就労状況、過去の就労経験、婚姻上の地位、世帯構成、世帯収入、兄弟姉妹の数、子どもの数、子どもの性別や年齢、15歳の頃の居住地、ライフヒストリー：中学校卒業後にこれまでに通った学校歴、学生時代の一時的なアルバイトを除くすべての職歴、無職期間、結婚歴、実親・義親との同居歴、人生でつらかった時期とよかった時期など。など）、調査対象者の意識や行動に関する設問（生活習慣、余暇活動、情報機器の利用、健康、現職の状態、この4年間の中で得た能力、今後高めたい能力、理想の時間配分、人生設計、家族・ジェンダー、社会階層、政治や政府に対する意識、自己評価、幸福感・満足感など）が含まれている。

JGSS-2013LCSのデータセットは、以下のデータ・アーカイブで公開している。
  日本：JGSSDDS (https://jgssdds.repo.nii.ac.jp), The Japanese General Social Surveys (JGSS) Project is a Japanese version of the General Social Survey (GSS) project closely replicating the original GSS of the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. It provides data for analyses of Japanese society, attitudes, and behaviors, which makes possible international comparisons. 

JGSS-2013 is a follow-up survey to JGSS-2009, and respondents were asked about details on employment history and transitions in marital status between 2009 and 2013 in order to observe the changes in the four years. JGSS-2013LCS includes two components, a face to face interview and a self-administered questionnaire. 

 In JGSS-2013LCS, respondents were also asked about their demographic and background information (education, employment, employment history,  income, income source, marital status, number and age of children, number of siblings, family and household composition, household income, and life history) as well as their attitudes and behaviors (e.g. habitual behaviors, leisure, ICT use, health, skills, views on family, gender and politics, social class, happiness and life satisfaction).
