In 1983 we began a three-year plan of studying the family--a base of our life-with an aim of deriving an image of the future family on the basis of such understanding. Since the inception of the plan, research has been conducted mainly by a Family Problems Study Group, a Life Planning Study Group, and a Nuclear Family Research Team. This survey, which belongs to the third research unit, attempts through empirical investigation to identify changes in the family and to grasp the state of life planning activities under the changes.
