For the purpose, the survey, directed to survivors of the promotion competition, provided a detailed study of their characteristics and the mechanisms by which their promotion was determined. More specifically, such matters were analyzed as work attitude, motivation, degree of expectations toward promotion, the role of educational background and specialization (clerical or technical), attitude to competition, performance evaluation, and the like. This survey was accompanied by a research study of issues of corporate governance (including promotion to executive positions), which was conducted by Kyoto University\u0027s Executives Study Group (headed by Toshiaki Tachibanaki).
