Strong seismic intensity 6 tremors from the earthquake were observed in Kashiwazaki-, Nagaoka-, and Kariwamura-cities, resulting in a total of 11 deaths.\n\nThe residents of central Kashiwazaki were particularly hard hit by the earthquake. This survey was conducted for the purpose of asking them about their behavior and state of mind as well as their attitudes to earthquakes immediately after the earthquake and to provide their answers as basic materials for future disaster prevention measures. 500 residents were asked detailed questions through face-to-face interviews.\n\nThere are four points to this earthquake. The first comprised structures in which casualties were found. Many elderly people were living in old houses and were killed when the structures collapsed. Second, the earthquake that hit Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant was stronger than the range expected, and various problems occurred. Third is the use of Earthquake Early Warning (EEW), which was launched in October 2007 for general public.
